Robert S. Binford, M. D.

Dr. Binford completed his Cardiothoracic Surgery training at the Medical University of South Carolina.  Prior to medical school, he received both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M University. 

He performed the first robotic closure of an Atrial Septal Defect in Tennessee as well as the first minimally invasive surgery for Atrial Fibrillation. 

He has traveled throughout the U.S. helping surgeons with their first robotic surgeries, and along with Dr. Brunsting, they continue to train heart surgeons from all over the world in robotic surgical techniques. 

In addition, Dr. Binford currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Greater Nashville American Heart Association.


Louis A. Brunsting, III, M. D.

Dr. Brunsting trained in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Duke University, taught at University of Michigan, and then entered practice in Nashville in 1994.

He has been a leader in developing minimally invasive methods to perform heart surgery, including coronary bypass, valve repair, pacemaker placement for heart failure, and laser revascularization.

He has taught surgical techniques for robotic heart surgery and stentless aortic valve replacement to surgeons around the U.S. and abroad. Dr. Brunsting is a past President of the Greater Nashville American Heart Association.


L. Lee Lancaster, M. D.

Dr. Lancaster completed his fellowship training at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, Thoracic & Cardiovascular division. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center.

He was the first surgeon to perform minimally invasive vascular procedures at Skyline and Summit Medical Center.


Chad R. Swan, M. D.

Dr. Swan completed his Cardiothoracic and Vascular fellowship at the Carolinas Medical Center in North Carolina. Prior to completing his fellowship he received his Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Anthropology from Tulane University.

He received his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine. His interests include adult Cardiac surgery and Endovascular surgery.

In addition, Dr. Swan is actively involved with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the American Heart Association.


K. Brian Walton, M.D.

Dr.Walton completed his fellowship training in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at the University of Texas HSC in San Antonio, Texas.  He is a graduate of the Texas Technological University School of Medicine in Bullock, Texas.  Dr.Walton’s areas of interest include cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery, and peripheral vascular surgery.


Kim Braly, R. N., M. S., N. P. -C.

Kim Braly started her career as a registered nurse in 1988, working with cardiac surgery patients from the cardiac intensive care areas to outpatient cardiac rehab.

She joined The Heart Team in 1997 and subsequently completed her Master of Science in Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner in 1998.

Kim now helps manage our patients throughout their hospital stay and their recovery at home. Kim also serves as research coordinator for the practice.
